China Bezene

China’s benzene prices on April 29 decreased, following the trend in downstream styrene monomer.

At closing on Monday, April 29, benzene prices stood at 8,745 yuan/tonne, a decrease of 160 yuan/tonne from the previous Friday.

Refineries in China have entered their maintenance season, taking out significant benzene production. However, total demand volume in May is expected to increase by about 130,000 tons compared to April.

Upward pricing movements for benzene are expected to be limited in the near future, particularly with some capacity outages returning to production in June.

China CPL Polymers

Domestic prices of CPL continued to decrease in the final half of April, despite ongoing maintenance-related capacity outages, according to CCF Group.

An outage by Lunan Chemical will have further impact on CPL availability in May, when consumption is foreseen being higher than in April.

CPL exports have also been trending upward since August 2023, with net exports of about 8,000 tons in March.
