Ence receives PEFC's Responsible Company award at Somos Bosque ceremony; award recognizes company's dedication to sustainable forestry and efforts encouraging forest owners to obtain certifications, reinforcing supply chain traceability

December 5, 2024 (press release) –

Ence – Energía y Celulosa has been awarded the “Responsible Company” recognition in the first edition of the “Somos Bosque” awards, organized by PEFC, a non-profit non-governmental organization that promotes and disseminates Sustainable Forest Management, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Luis Javier Sánchez, Director of Forest Sustainability at Ence, was in charge of collecting this recognition.

This award highlights Ence's commitment to sustainable forest management, a commitment in which Ence has been a pioneer since the beginning of this forest management certification program. Ence has worked closely with PEFC, implementing sustainability practices throughout its value chain, and collaborating with the different actors in the sector for the implementation and dissemination of good practices.

PEFC certification, which promotes responsible forest management, has also been a fundamental pillar of Ence's operations, ensuring that its forest products come from sustainably managed sources.

To this end, Ence achieved certification of the forest management of its forestry subsidiaries (currently called Silvasur Agroforestal and Ence Terra), which were the first PEFC-certified managers in Spain. In addition, the company actively promoted the certification of forest owners in its surroundings, both for the sustainability of their forest management through improvements in it, and for their chain of custody through the reinforcement of its traceability.

PEFC Chain of Custody certification guarantees the traceability of forest products from the forest to the final consumer, providing an additional guarantee of sustainability.

Major recognitions

Recently, Ence has received other awards: in Asturias, the San Alberto Magno Award for Scientific Merit 2024, a recognition granted by the Official College of Chemists of Asturias and León and the Association of Chemists of the Principality of Asturias, and the Quality Innovation Award (QIA), awarded to Ence's Asturian biofactory by the Spanish Association of Centers Promoting Excellence (CEX).

In Galicia, the company has been recognized with the Commitment to Galicia Award at the 1st Venancio Salcines Foundation Gala, and with the Sustainable Company Award 2024, awarded by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Pontevedra (CEP) in collaboration with the Professional Association of Environmental Companies (APROEMA).
