Nebraska-based Instinct Pet Food named as Lincoln Chamber of Commerce's Manufacturer of the Year, which honors community-oriented businesses; company hired 35 new workers, plans to hire 20-30 more before building new LEED-certified manufacturing plant

January 6, 2022 (press release) –

The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce named Instinct Pet Food, the Raw Brand, as Manufacturer of the Year. The award is given to the most visionary and community-oriented individuals and companies of the year, highlighting their contributions to society.

Instinct is a premium pet food brand that produces raw food for dogs and cats in convenient, safe, and easy-to-feed treats. These products are made with raw meat, fruits, and vegetables that are minimally processed and never cooked, keeping more nutrients safe than traditional pet foods.

“Pet parents’ constant desire to find the healthiest and most nutritious foods for their pets has driven us to hyper-growth and success,” said Robbie Swanson, Instinct Production Manager. “Two years ago we were a small business producing 10 million pounds of raw food. We will be approaching 50-60 million pounds by 2025. We are proud to hire 35 new people this year at our facility and expect to hire another 20-30 next year before building our expansion. “

Instinct has a new manufacturing expansion planned in Lincoln that will enable increased production, employment, safety and sustainability in its manufacturing operations. The new facility will be designed to be LEED certified, making it one of the few LEED-certified pet food manufacturing facilities in the United States, and nearly double the company’s employment in Lincoln.

“We are very proud to receive this prestigious award,” said Robbie Swanson, Instinct’s Director of Production. “Lincoln is our home. It has been our home for 20 years. When we sought to expand the plant, there was no other place we would rather be than Lincoln, Nebraska.”

Instinct’s manufacturing facilities are committed to safety and quality. Instinct is the only raw pet food company in North America to have achieved a Safe Quality Food Safety (SQF) “Excellent” food safety rating and SQF quality certification in their manufacturing facilities and they just received the honor for the second year in a row. Instinct’s facilities also adhere to the strict standards set by the FDA FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) and use High Pressure Processing (HPP) to ensure that raw recipes are pathogen-free and safe for pets and pet parents, while retaining maximum nutrients.
