May 11, 2022 (press release) –

Scholle IPN will be at AusPack, one of the largest conferences for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical processing and packaging industries in the southern hemisphere. Our team will be attending the event, which takes place May 17-20 in Melbourne, to meet with new vendors and present all the new packaging formats and emerging technologies we’ve been working on since the event last took place in 2019.

AusPack anticipates that over 7,000 packaging professionals will come to connect with 350 different exhibitors. Along with an exhibition floor, attendees can choose to participate in talks, workshops, and a showcase of packaging innovation and design. Make sure to visit us at stand G100 to learn more about how we can tailor a packaging solution to meet your unique needs.

We caught up with Carmen Houston, Commercial Director for Scholle IPN in Australia and New Zealand, to learn more about why we’re attending and what to expect when visiting our booth:

This is the first time Scholle IPN has attended AusPack. What can attendees look forward to when they visit the booth?

We’re attending AusPack primarily to promote our development work in mono-material structures, particularly yogurt pouches, syrups, and edible oil. We know and have connections with all the stakeholders in Australia/New Zealand (ANZ), and this is a chance to showcase some of the work we’ve been doing.

Why visit the Scholle IPN booth?

If you’re interested in transitioning from rigid packaging to flexible, we’d love to help you on this journey! During COVID, we have seen a significant move away from rigid formats toward flexible packaging solutions, partly due to supply chain challenges.

This is particularly apparent in home and personal care brands. Over the last few years, we’ve developed dozens of innovations specifically for this market and have succeeded with existing clients like Unilever and Koh. Bag-in-box and pouch packaging add tangible value to this sector with refillable options, ecommerce-friendly choices, and real sustainability gains.

We’ve seen a massive shift in the way consumers purchase home and personal goods. The pandemic has redirected priorities: people are cleaning more and going out less, changing the way they buy products in this sector.

What does it mean to be at AusPack in 2022 after such a challenging—yet transformational—two years? What’s changed for Scholle IPN since then?

We have launched production of spouted pouches at our facility in Adelaide—which we did in the middle of the pandemic. We’re also in the process of bringing additional capacity into our region as a result.

The demand for flexible solutions is apparent. Along with expanding our plants, we also acquired equipment manufacturer Bossar in 2021 and will be acquired by SIG, a world-leader in aseptic technology, to extend the possibilities of flexible and aseptic packaging.

We’ve also done extensive research into the home and personal care market. Our findings show that consumers are embracing change: they’re willing to pay more for eco-friendly options and happy buying products online and will continue to do so in the future. All our research indicates that the demand for sustainable alternatives is a question of when, not if, for brands within the home and personal care sector.

Furthermore, our research shows that customers are more and more likely to pick a product if they can demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, and that’s easy to measure and communicate by choosing flexible packaging.

What should folks be thinking about if they want to switch to bag-in-box and pouch packaging?

We hope that potential vendors consider sourcing and buying locally produced, high-quality flexible packaging from a supplier who has a proven history in the ANZ market. Our primary focus at Scholle IPN is to bring sustainable products to market across multiple categories.

We’re uniquely poised to serve the ANZ market because our facility is entirely vertically integrated. Our plant in Adelaide handles every step of the packaging production process: we extrude, laminate, and make bags for every line of business, from retail pouches to industrial solutions. We know that if attendees take a second to visit our booth and learn more about how we work, they’ll find a way our packaging can work for their business.

Scholle IPN has grown significantly over the last 70 years. We manufacture flexible packaging in 15 locations across five continents, with sales support in an additional two countries.
