Luxury vodka breaks mold with velvet bottle
New York design and branding agency Mode Design Group created the limited edition Skyy Vodka bottle featuring the first baroque velvet pattern for the 2012 holiday season. Mode Design’s Creative Director Gabrielle Rein said the fabric invites customers to touch the bottle on shelves and corresponds with the trends of the current fashion houses. The technique for creating the flocked design had to be developed since the limited edition is the first flocked bottle to sell on the U.S. spirits market.

Resealable can offers no spills, extra ad space
The Soda Seal is a water-tight, gas-tight resealable can closure that can prevent spills for consumers as well as offer extra marketing features for advertisers. The Soda Seal was developed by Ukranian inventor Johan De Broyer and designed by Robert Davis as a device that could also keep a beverage carbonated once opened. The seal is connected to the opening tab inside of the can and is rotated to cover the opening with the twist of the tab. The company says the seal can also be used for an array of marketing ideas, including hidden codes, prizes, logos, scents and branding.

Eco bottle cuts down on plastic, appeals to consumers
The eco.bottle line is a recyclable bottle solution that combines a milk bag with a shell made from molded pulp that uses up to 70% less plastic than standard plastic bottles. Made from 100% recycled paperboard and old newspaper, the shell features a comfortable hand grip and can be separated from the bag after use for recycling or composting. The empty shells can also split apart like a clamshell and be stacked along with the flat pouches, so shippers can transport up to six times more bottles per truck. Aside from winning a number of awards, the eco.bottle line is also the only recycled-paper bottle currently on store shelves. Seventh Generation, an eco-friendly line of household products, said it saw a 19% increase in sales after switching to the eco.bottle line.

Pull tab turns box into elevated shelf-ready tray
The Stepbox, an innovation from U.K. packaging company Pillbox Design, is a shelf ready tray that elevates its products so consumers can clearly see each item. Shipped as a conventional box, the tray features a pull tab in the back that elevates the products in increasing steps when lifted. The pack won the Lion’s Lair 2012 award at this year’s Packaging Innovations held in London.
