NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia , November 6, 2013 (Interfax Russia & CIS Business and Financial Newswire) – Britain's Rexam PLC, a leading manufacturer of beverage containers, will build an aluminum can plant in the Industrial and Logistics Park (ILP) outside Novosibirsk, the Regional Investment Development Agency, which manages the park, told Interfax.

"Representatives of Rexam signed a lease agreement to a plot of land in the industrial park and will become ILP's 16th resident," an agency spokesman said.

A source familiar with the company's plans told Interfax that investment in the project will run to 2.7 billion rubles. The plant will produce aluminum cans for beer and carbonated beverages.

Rexam has already had plans in the past to open up a production facility in Novosibirsk Region. The head of the company's Russian division, Craig Jones said earlier that back in 2007 the company studied the possibility of developing its business in the region, but financial instability forced it to shelve the project.

Rexam has plants in 20 countries, including four in Russia: Rexam Beverage Can Naro-Fominsk, Rexam Beverage Can Vsevolozhsk in Leningrad Region, Rexam Beverage Can Dmitrov and a plant in the Chelyabinsk Region town of Argayash.

Regional Investment Development Agency owns 99.99% of shares in ILP Management Company.
