Bunge
issued the following news release:
Bunge
announces that it has achieved 80% traceability and monitoring of soy in its indirect supply chain in the Brazilian Cerrado. The pioneering and large-scale initiative to track indirect purchases in the biome is part of the
Bunge
Sustainable Partnership Program and reinforces the company's consistent performance in developing responsible supply chains , particularly in areas at higher risk of deforestation in the country.
Launched in 2021, the Program was designed to help grain resellers assess the socio-environmental performance of their suppliers. Through it,
Bunge
shares its experience, methodologies and tools so that resellers can bring commodities of proven sustainable origin to the market. The program provides access to verification systems such as satellite and farm-scale imagery to advance property traceability and monitoring.
“The program reaffirms
Bunge
's active role in engaging and positively influencing the entire supply chain in
Brazil
and consolidates itself as an important instrument towards the company's goal of achieving deforestation-free chains by 2025”, says
Pamela Moreira
, Senior Manager of Sustainability by
Bunge
for
South America
. “In 2018, we achieved 100% traceability to third-party silos and, as a next step, we expanded our focus to soy acquired indirectly in priority areas in the Cerrado. The strategy proved to be the right one, as it had strong adherence from the resellers and very positive results”.
To strengthen the program,
Bunge
is expanding its partnership with Vega Monitoring which, through the LYRA platform, uses remote sensing, artificial intelligence and structured data to carry out socio-environmental diagnosis and monitoring of agricultural properties. The platform, developed by Vega Monitoring and certified by
Bureau Veritas
- world leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) - is available through an exclusive web interface, created in partnership with
Bunge
.
Resellers and cooperatives can access the tool directly, autonomously, without intermediation from the company, and with security endorsed by the ISO 27001 certification, an international standard that meets a series of requirements, processes and controls, which aim to manage information security. It is possible, for example, to consult documents related to the properties tracked, as well as data from satellite monitoring in an entirely digital way, without the need to run multiple queries on different sources. The system incorporates a high level of security, ensuring data integrity and guaranteeing that each dealership or cooperative only has access to the data of the properties with which it relates.
“Investing in digital solutions is part of
Bunge
's strategy to expand the scale of its initiatives and positively impact agribusiness”, comments
Braian Souto
, Senior Manager of Global Digital Office at
Bunge
. “We have a culture of constant evolution and we believe in collaborative construction, sharing practices, technology and information with our value chains to act in an increasingly faster, simpler and more efficient way”.
The resellers and cooperatives participating in the program receive full support from
Bunge
's business team, in addition to all technical support from Vega, which not only offers training for system implementation, but also free access to the
Sustainable Partnership
program platform. In order to support the adoption of the platform, program signatories will now have a Customer Success area fully dedicated to providing service, support, reports and guidance on the use of available tools and services. Companies interested in taking part in the
Sustainable Partnership
must access the program's page on
Bunge
's website .
