March 29, 2023 (press release) –
The operating performance recorded in 2022 was the best in the factory's history
Suzano, a global reference in the production of bioproducts developed from the cultivation of eucalyptus, registered a record production of pulp and paper at the industrial unit of Mucuri, in the south of Bahia. Throughout 2022, 1,771,368 tons of pulp were produced, surpassing the previous record and the EBITDA day base plan. Paper production – 246,989 tons – was also a record in 2022, surpassing the previous mark (245,210 tons in 2021).
The unprecedented production marks reached in 2022 are a reflection of the optimization of processes and the commitment of the teams that work at Suzano in Mucuri. “The team gained technical knowledge and worked to anticipate possible problems, using tools and methodologies to structure actions that made the difference”, reports Laís Silveira dos Santos, Production Engineer in the Paper Finishing area at the Mucuri Unit.
In the pulp area, one of the differentials that contributed to the record performance was the increase in the production pace of the two digesters, which is one of the main reactors in the pulp industry. Line 1 increased production from 2,050 t/day to 2,060 t/day compared to the previous year (2021), while line 2 increased from 3,700 t/day to 3,720 t/day. Line 2 also set a new pulp production record: 1,170,573 tons produced in the year.
2022 was an exceptional year for the unit, according to the Production Manager, Pedro Henrique Correa. “We presented an excellent performance in the safety culture, consolidating the reduction of occurrences in the unit, which was a highlight in the entire Suzano group”, he highlighted, adding that the unit's performance in terms of paper and cellulose product quality was also historical in the Mucuri, leading to a very high level of operational performance.
