May 24, 2024 (press release) –
Hamburger wrappers and packaging bags will be replaced, using a new component that allows them to biodegrade. This is a new step by Arcos Dorados to replace its packaging with more sustainable options.
By adding actions together, no matter how small they may seem, we can achieve a great impact and a sustainable future. Every small action contributes. That is why Arcos Dorados Argentina, the largest McDonald's franchise in the world and who operates the brand in Argentina, began to implement a change in the primary bags and hamburger wrappers. The company incorporates the JANUS ® compound of 100% renewable origin that is biodegradable, compostable and suitable for recycling.
Guided by the commitment to caring for the environment and developing communities, Arcos Dorados Argentina continues to develop proposals to strengthen its pillars of sustainable supply and circular economy. This decision to apply the JANUS® compound to its primary bags and hamburger wrappers would allow the elimination of 50 tons of plastic material in these packaging annually.
The compound is a natural, 100% recyclable and biodegradable laminate that, when applied, becomes an integral part of any paper product. In Argentina, this technology allowed the incorporation of this new compound for hamburger wrappers and primary use bags.
