Lexington, KY – August 14, 2024 – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new bookstore in Lexington, Kentucky on Wednesday, August 21st. The new Barnes & Noble is located in the Fayette Mall (3401 Nicholasville Road, Lexington, KY 40503) in the space formerly occupied by Gap Kids right in the center of the mall by the entrance flanked by H&M.
The new Barnes & Noble will officially open to the public at 10AM ET on Wednesday the 21st. The bookstore will offer all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller.
“We are pleased to be expanding our presence in Lexington with our new Fayette Mall bookstore,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “Jill Smith and her team, which includes experienced booksellers coming over from our Man-O-War bookstore, have been busy curating an assortment specifically built to cater to their community.”
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.
The Fayette Mall location is one of seven new Barnes & Noble bookstores to open this August, alongside locations in New Mexico, South Carolina, New York, California and Tennessee. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.
“Having started my career as a Barnes & Noble bookseller 21 years ago, it is my great pleasure to help bring this new bookstore to our community,” said Jill Smith, Store Manager. “It’s been wonderful seeing how many local readers have already taken to social media to share in our excitement, and we’re very eager to welcome them through our doors next week!”
